The following have been promoted to Senior Manager:
Barbara Jessen, CPA, CVA has been promoted to senior manager in Ridgeland, where she relocated from Nebraska afterjoining the firm in 2025. With experience in public accounting, Barbara brings a strong technical background to client work involving tax planning, compliance, and valuation services for individuals, businesses, estates, trusts, and clients in industries such as real estate and agriculture. A graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Barbara is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Nebraska and Mississippi and holds the Certified Valuation Analyst designation.
Hannah Avery, CPA, now a senior manager in Birmingham, first joined the firm as an intern in 2013. Hannah specializes in tax advisory and compliance services for businesses and individuals, serving clients in the manufacturing, technology, professional services, real estate, and private equity industries. Known for her reliability, dedication and client-focused approach, Hannah enjoys helping organizations navigate tax requirements while supporting their broader business goals. Hannah says she was inspired to go into accounting because “accounting is the language of business.”
Jennifer Mayfield, CPA has been promoted to senior manager in the Birmingham market. Since joining BMSS in 2013, she has primarily served manufacturing and technology businesses, combining technical expertise with practical, client-focused guidance to help clients navigate complex tax issues. Jennifer is also an active member of the firm’s State and Local Tax (SALT) area, where she provides income tax compliance and consulting services for multi-state businesses. Jennifer’s combination of technical knowledge, work ethic, and genuine commitment to client success defines her approach to every engagement.
Mason Murphy, CPA, CCIFP joined the firm as a runner in 2014 and has built his career hfrom the ground up, now serving as a senior manager in the Riverchase office. He works primarily with clients in construction, manufacturing and distribution, and closely held businesses, serving as a trusted advisor across audit and assurance, tax compliance, tax planning, and advisory services. Mason is a CPA and also holds the Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) designation, bringing a level of industry depth that goes well beyond the numbers.
Rebecca Tipton, SHRM-SCP, now a senior manager in Huntsville, serves as the HR Services Manager from BMSS’s HR Advisory Services division, where she helps organizations manage HR responsibilities, maintain compliance with employment regulations and strengthen their people strategies. For the past six years, Rebecca has focused on HR consulting, working with organizations of various sizes across industries including nonprofit, healthcare, government contracting, construction, education and manufacturing. Known as a strategic thinker, relationship builder and trusted advisor, she partners with business leaders to support organizational success through people-focused solutions that strengthen employee engagement, retention and team alignment.
