JACKSON, Miss., May 21, 2026 – BMSS Advisors & CPAs is proud to announce that longtime Member, Jan Lewis, CPA, CGMA, has been inaugurated as the 113th Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the national professional organization of Certified Public Accountants in the United States.
Beginning in June, Jan will also serve as Chair of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, which combines the strengths of the AICPA and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and represents more than 574,000 members in 150 countries and territories.
Jan has a long record of volunteer service and leadership in the AICPA, advocating for the profession, the public, the firm, and for clients. She has served on the AICPA Life Insurance and Disability Plans Committee and was previously a member and chair of both the AICPA’s Tax Practice and Procedures Committee and the AICPA’s Tax Executive Committee. She has been a Member of the AICPA Board of Directors since 2023 and served as Vice Chair of the AICPA in 2025.
Jan’s appointment as Chair is a historic achievement for BMSS, the accounting profession and the state of Mississippi. As the first AICPA Chair from Mississippi, Jan’s leadership marks a significant milestone and brings well-deserved recognition to the talent, dedication and professionalism found throughout the state’s CPA community.
At BMSS, Jan’s achievement is a point of tremendous pride. Her career has been defined by thoughtful leadership, technical excellence, tireless service and a genuine commitment to helping others succeed. Those qualities have made her an invaluable leader within the firm and will continue to serve her well as she steps into this national role.

Jan is a valued Member of BMSS, having joined the Ridgeland office’s former firm, Haddox Reid, in 1987. As a tax Member of the firm, Jan’s responsibilities include income and estate tax planning, research and compliance for both individual and business clients. Her areas of practice include healthcare, oil & gas, construction, real estate and more.
