Jan Lewis, CPA, CGMA, is a Member of BMSS’s tax practice in Ridgeland, Mississippi, where she focuses on income and estate tax planning, research, and compliance for individual and business clients. Her practice spans healthcare, oil & gas, construction, real estate, and high-net-worth individuals. Jan is also a sought-after educator, teaching continuing education courses to CPAs throughout Mississippi and across the country on income tax planning, business tax matters, and S corporation issues, and presenting on financial literacy and tax reform to audiences nationwide.
Jan has authored articles for the Tax Adviser and served as a webcast presenter for the AICPA’s Tax Division. Her insight on tax policy and practice has been featured by Fox Business News, NPR, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Bankrate, and the Detroit Free Press, and she was named one of Forbes’ Top 200 CPAs in America in 2024.
Jan has spent much of her career in service to the profession. She is active in the Mississippi Society of CPAs, where she previously served as President, sat on the Board of Governors, served as an officer of the Society’s Central Chapter, and serves as a trustee of the Mississippi Tax Institute. She currently serves on the MSCPA’s Long Range Planning Committee and Young CPAs Liaison Committee.
Within the AICPA, Jan has held numerous leadership roles over the years, including the MSCPA’s elected representative to the AICPA Council, service on the AICPA Life Insurance and Disability Plans Committee, and member and chair positions on both the AICPA’s Tax Practice and Procedures Committee and its Tax Executive Committee. In 2026, Jan was named Chair of the Board of Directors of the AICPA — the first AICPA Chair from Mississippi — and she also serves as Chair of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, representing more than 574,000 members in 150 countries and territories. She previously served as AICPA Vice Chair in 2025 and has served on its Board of Directors since 2023.
A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Jan graduated summa cum laude from Mississippi State University in 1985. She is a member and past chair of the Adkerson School of Accountancy Advisory Board at MSU, was named the MSU College of Business’s Alumni Fellow in 2016, and was recognized as MSU Beta Alpha Psi Alumnus of the Year in 2000.
Jan and her husband, John, live in Jackson with their spoiled dachshunds, Connie, Rocky and Snoop.
