The IRS and state tax agencies have issued an urgent alert to all employers regarding a Form W-2 phishing scam. This scam is particularly concerning given the sensitive information contained on these forms. We encourage you to be vigilant when opening emails requesting sensitive data, and in responding to those emails without verification of the sender. If you determine or suspect that you have received a W-2 scam email, you should forward it to phishing@irs.gov and place “W2 Scam” in the subject line. If you are a victim to the scam, contact the IRS immediately and file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center.
