Throughout the fall of 2023, employees from BMSS Advisors & CPAs’ Family of Companies participated in the annual serve days, continuing a long-standing tradition of partnering with local charitable organizations.
Since BMSS’ founding in 1991, community outreach has been a key component of the firm’s identity. Bi-annual serve days are just one part of the BMSS Legacy initiative to help cultivate relationships with nonprofit organizations and “empower employees in the BMSS family of companies to make an impact in their communities whether through their time or material resources.”
Birmingham team members split between five local organizations over two serve days. Volunteers donated their time by cleaning, fixing, sorting and meeting general needs at Alabama Wildlife Center, Bundles of Hope, Christian Service Mission, East Lake Initiative and Big Oak Girl’s Ranch.
BMSS’ Gadsden team joined the Family Success Center for their Community Gardening Day, where they cleaned out plant boxes and prepared them for winter produce. All fruits and vegetables grown go toward feeding those in need in the Gadsden community.
Employees from the Huntsville office sorted clothing and made deliveries for the CARE Center Thrift Store, an organization devoted to “empowering our underprivileged neighbors in Southeastern Madison County through education, employment, and crisis support while sharing the love and hope of Christ.”
“We provide Serve Day opportunities where employees can use their paid volunteer hours. We also have a donor-advised fund. Employees can contribute to the fund and can also apply for grants from the fund for 501c3 organizations that they are passionate about,” said BMSS Legacy Head Kate Fluker on the accessibility of serving.
BMSS Legacy Mission Statement:
To leave a legacy for others in our communities by providing time, talents and financial support to nonprofit organizations designed to aid individuals and families who are financially disadvantaged, lack access to basic health and human services, or are otherwise disadvantaged and require the assistance of others to meet their basic needs for food, clothing, shelter, medical care and other fundamental needs.
