Merrill joined BMSS in 2017 as firm consultant and business developer. In his role, he focuses on four main initiatives: merger integration, business development strategy, finance and risk management for clients and spearheading a collaborative family enterprise advisory team.
Prior to joining the BMSS team, Merrill worked in the banking world and has spent the past 21 years working in a variety of high-profile positions for First Commercial Bank (now Synovus). His primary interest is in helping businesses with their finances, operational improvement and strategic growth.
Originally from Birmingham, as a child, Merrill moved with his family to Tupelo, Mississippi, and remained there until he attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. While at Furman, Merrill met wife of 25 years, Barbara. In 1991, they decided to move back to Birmingham, to the Homewood area, where they have raised their three children. Merrill received an MBA from Samford in 1998. He has been on Birmingham’s Red Cross board of directors and currently serves as a trustee and finance committee member for Covenant Presbyterian.
