When three young CPAs decided to strike out on their own in 1991, they moved into an office that looked amazingly like the basement of one of the shareholders’ homes. This was the lavish headquarters for what would become Barfield, Murphy, Shank & Smith. Those early days were filled with plenty of long hours. And brown bag lunches. Still, Don Murphy, Keith Barfield and John Shank made time to dream about what their firm might become.

Today, Barfield, Murphy, Shank & Smith employs over 100 people at our office in Riverchase, just outside of Birmingham. Our client list includes hundreds of companies that represent a broad range of business and industry and individuals. We plan to continue steady, manageable growth while not losing sight of our mission and vision.
